Lao Cai province recorded a 25% on-year jump in tourist arrivals in the first seven months of 2014, largely attributable to a new marketing campaign raising its image as a safe, friendly and attractive destination.
“The province has initiated a new marketing and advertising campaign and devoted significant resources to in its efforts to boost tourism, said Dr. Tran Huu Son, Director of the Lao Cai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Prices of tourism services have been slashed by as much as 30%, fees to many tourist sites have been cut or eliminated and spiritual tours along the Red River linking Phu Tho, Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces have been upgraded, Son said.
Additionally, the province is launching eight new tours on September 8, including a new roadshow in Sa Pa with flower garlands and coloured lanterns and an international marathon on September 20-21.
