Vietnam low-cost carrier Jetstar Pacific to suspend flights

Budget carrier Jetstar Pacific said it will suspend flights on two domestic routes from November 15 for scheduled maintenance work.

The Hanoi-Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City-Hue services are expected to resume next summer, local media reported last week, citing airline officials.

Affected passengers will receive ticket refunds or arrangements to fly on other routes, the carrier said. It added that guests flying between HCMC and Hue can also choose to fly with Vietnam Airlines without any extra charge.

“Jetstar Pacific apologizes to all the guests who are affected by the suspension of the two services. We plan to resume the flights in summer 2012,” an official told news website VnExpress.

The carrier is expected to send one aircraft abroad every month for maintenance between November and May 2012, VnExpress reported.

Jetstar Pacific, an offshoot of Qantas Airways’ budget subsidiary Jetstar, is reportedly close to an ownership shake-up.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported late last month that under a tentative agreement that is still some months from completion, the Vietnamese government will transfer a 70 percent stake in Jetstar Pacific to flag carrier Vietnam Airlines.

Sydney-based Qantas is expected to increase its holding from 27 percent to 30 percent, the report said.
